6+1-axis laser welding system with scanner laser beam guidance

A 6+1-axis laser system is currently being set up and tested in partnership with the Belgian scanner manufacturer Newso.

ScanneranlageIn autumn 2019, the construction of a test system for combined and interpolated movements of a 4-axis CNC controller and a 3-axis laser scanner began.

The possibility of modulated welding through the high-frequency laser beam oscillation of the scanner is intended to remove the size limitation of the working field of the scanner with an interpolated workpiece movement through the CNC axes. A CNC control is being further developed for this purpose in partnership with the Belgian scanner manufacturer Newso. The aim is to produce an executable prototype of a 6+1-axis laser system for highly dynamic welding applications in the precision sector.

A laboratory system is expected by the second quarter of 2020, on which sample welding can already take place on behalf of customers. The machine is built with components suited to industrial use, so further development into a series production system can be carried out later with little effort. If the test phase is positive, production operations should start in 2020.
